Welcome to Food and Impressions

I hope you can find some hints and tips that will save you some time, time that I spent doing something I like: searching, reading, crossing, selecting and finally, I hope, one day, trying.

HK Diner: Chinese restaurant in West End, London

HK Diner

Chinese, open late at night

a rather unusual chinaman, 23 Nov ’09: “Roast Duck and Crispy pork: This dish can often end up quite greasy, but the duck and pork were as grease free as can be hoped for, not an oil slick in sight. A smattering of greens and a rather thin gravy but overall, really enjoyed it.”, “HK Diner was pretty good overall and above average compared to the rest of the usual Chinatown haunts.”.

Mr. Noodles, 1 Oct '09: "Soup noodles stand and fall on the quality of the soup and it was obvious that the HK Diner artificially enhanced their master stock with MSG".

Tamarind and Thyme, 10 Jul '09: Morning Glory vegetables (Aka Ong Choy, Kang Kung, Water Convolvulus) Stir Fried with Fermented Beancurd, Mixed Seafood Fried Rice: with small chunks of fresh scallops and prawns throughout, Baked Pork Chop Rice: large dish of rice topped with pieces of fried pork chop and secret recipe sauce of wine and cream, baked (it takes at least 20 minutes) and the whole hot bubbling dish is then brought to your table, Crispy Shredded Duck: shreds of meat, pancakes, hoisin sauce, matchsticks of cucumber, slivers of spring onion. It was good – crispy skin and moist flesh.

"I like HK Diner! I used to go quite regularly, then stopped for a few years, and I’ve started going back again. I’ve had Wonton Noodles, Roast Duck Ho Fun, Morning Glory with Fermented Bean Crd (one of my favourite dishes in any restaurant) and Car Su on Rice.".
